Are you
wondering how to make sure that your workforce has
the skills that today’s market requires?
Taking on apprentices is a great way to ensure that
your staff are up-to-date with work-related knowledge, skills, experience and
qualifications, helping you to
improve the bottom line and to fill the skills gaps.
Apprenticeship schemes are designed to deliver the
skills your business needs – now and for the future.
They will help you keep pace with latest technology and working
practices in your sector. They contribute to a more
highly-motivated workforce - apprentices have made an active choice to
learn on the job and a commitment to a specific
career.

Apprentices are paid employees who work alongside
experienced staff to gain job-specific skills. They will also study a
college-based course, usually on a day-release basis, leading towards a nationally
recognised qualification.
Like any employee, potential candidates must submit applications for apprenticeship
positions and go through a selection process.
Apprenticeships can take between one and four years
to complete depending on the level of
apprenticeship, the apprentice's ability and the industry sector.
Anyone living in England, over 16 and not in
full-time education can apply.

"Taking on apprentices has brought
tremendous value to our company.
Knowing the latest fashions is crucial
to our success; taking on youngsters allows us to
stay tuned in."

The costs of Apprenticeship training is recouped
relatively quickly.
Recruiting from the external
labour market is seen as more expensive because of
recruitment and induction costs.
Supply in the external labour market is limited. Apprentices provide a pool of skilled people to select from for future
promotion.
Apprentices often demonstrate high levels of loyalty
and are more likely to stay with the company and
become steeped in company values.
Apprentices bring new ideas into organisations.
